City Police are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a metal garage in the 100 block of Churchill Avenue early this morning.

There was no vehicle in the structure, but rabbits were kept there and four or five of the animals died.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services was called to the scene just after 3 a.m.

The small garage was located at the back of the property and was some distance from other structures in the area.

Eight firefighters responded to the call in two pumpers and a rescue truck. It took three hours to extinguish the fire, which was "going pretty good when we got there," one firefighter said.

This incident was one of two unrelated calls that Sault firefighters received within a few minutes of each other early this morning.
