An Iraqui tribunal has announced this morning that former President Saddam Hussein will face new charges of genocide related to a campaign against Kurds in the 1980s.

An Iraqui tribunal has announced this morning that former President Saddam Hussein will face new charges of genocide related to a campaign against Kurds in the 1980s.

Hussein and seven other defendants are currently being tried for the deaths of 148 people in the town of Dujail.

The new charges relate to what's known as the Anfal campaign, in which 180,000 civilians are said to have died, and a gassing of the Kurdish town of Halabja.
