'Sorry, Dick' says guy shot by Cheney

A 78-year-old lawyer made his first public appearance today since he was shot in the face, neck and chest on Saturday by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.

A 78-year-old lawyer made his first public appearance today since he was shot in the face, neck and chest on Saturday by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.

"My family and I are deeply sorry for everything Vice President Cheney and his family have had to deal with," Harry Whittington said as he was released from a hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The lawyer thanked those who cared for him in hospital and commented that he was "a lucky person."

"We all assume certain risks in what we do, in what activities we pursue .... Accidents do and will happen," he said.
