Union supports Essar's injunction bid (update)

On the heels of Cliffs Natural Resources announcement that it had cancelled its pellet supply agreement with Essar Steel Algoma comes word that the local steel mill's largest union group will support the steelmaker's request for a restraining order.

Essar Steel Algoma, in a release Tuesday, said it has filed a request for a temporary restraining order.

Essar's dispute with Cliffs over pellet supply is currently before a federal judge in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mike DaPrat, president of Local 2251, released the following brief statement this morning:

United Steelworkers Local Union 2251 has filed an affidavit with the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio in support of Essar Steel Algoma Inc.’s request.
