SAULT STE. MARIE
POLICE SERVICES

As summer continues another long weekend is fast approaching.

Unfortunately many tragedies take place on a long weekend; some of which could be avoided with careful planning.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorist and residents of several steps they can take to reduce being a victim.

If you are going away make sure you have someone checking your home.

Leave lights on timers and make sure someone is picking up your mail or newspapers.

Inform your trusted neighbours that you will be away and ask them to keep an eye on your residence.

If you notice someone suspicious around your neighbourhood, don’t hesitate to contact city police.

While travelling this weekend, make sure you obey the speed limit and ensure all persons in the vehicle are wearing their seat belts.

Don’t drink and drive.  Don’t text and drive.  Keep your eyes on the road.

Make sure your brake lights and signal lights are all working.

If you stop at shopping malls, don’t leave valuables visible in your vehicle.

Make sure you lock your vehicle, and don’t leave your purse unattended.

Summer time is also boating time. Don’t drink while on the waterways.

Also ensure everyone in the boat is wearing a life jacket.

Have a safe long weekend.
