This past weekend saw the 4th annual Northern Ontario Ride For Sight in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area draw more than 90 participants, an estimated 75 percent of which were out-of-towners.

“Ride For Sight is a National organization,” said event chair Dave Ostrowski-Gallant. “We go down [to the Central Ontario ride] every year to try to promote this ride and get people to come north to our event. It’s working, plain and simple.”

“Once we get them here, they’ll come back every year,” he added.

While Ostrowski-Gallant didn’t have a tally of funds raised at this years event when we spoke to him on Saturday, he was more than confident the organization’s $20,000 fundraising target would be met.

The weekend-long cycling celebration included guided tours of the Algoma region, live entertainment, motorcycle games, and awards.

The majority of events for participants took place at Searchmont Resort with live entertainment provided by Havadder, Bone Yard and illusionist Ryan McFarling

All proceeds from Ride For Sight go to support the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Canada's largest private and charitable funder of vision research.
