One arrested in west end police stand-off (update)

8 a.m. update On the 29th of March, 2015, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a report of a domestic assault that occurred on the 28th of March. As a result of the investigation a 22-year-old male was taken into custody last evening.

On the 29th of March, 2015, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a report of a domestic assault that occurred on the 28th of March. 

As a result of the investigation a 22-year-old male was taken into custody last evening. 

The male has been charged with one count of assault, one count of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of breach of probation for failing to keep the peace and be of good behavior.  

He will be appearing in bail court this morning.

8:45 p.m. update

Police confirm the area of this incident was closed to traffic until about 4:30 when the suspect surrendered.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. the Police Service received a report of a domestic assault that occurred on the 29th of March 2015. 
 
Further information was received that the victim and suspect were still in the residence and that the suspect had access to weapons and was preventing the victim from leaving. 
 
As a result officers from Patrol Services, Investigation Services and the Emergency Services Unit responded to a residence in the 600 block of Queen Street West.  
 
Officers made contact with the suspect and were able to negotiate his surrender without incident. 
 
The female victim was also located inside the residence and was transported to hospital to be treated for non life threatening injuries.  
 
The investigation is continuing. 
 
The male will be appearing in bail court on the 30th of March.
