One person charged in house fire

BLIND RIVER – The East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Blind River, with the assistance of the East Algoma Crime Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshall office, has concluded their investigation of the house fire on Nadon Street in Blind River which occurred on December 23, 2014. 

As a result their investigation, Garry Ross WARBRICK, 61 years of age from Blind River, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Produce a schedule II substance, section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
  • Possess anything for the use in the production of a schedule I or schedule II substance, section 7.1(1) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a schedule II substance, section 4(1) of the CDSA;
  • Arson by negligence, section 436(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);  and with
  • Arson-disregard for human life, section 433(1(a) of the CC. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in Blind River at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 4, 2015.
