On March 4, 2015 shortly before 2 a.m. this morning, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a search warrant in Aweres Township.

Officers from this unit were assisted by uniformed officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

In addition officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Emergency Services Unit and Police Service Dog Justice were in attendance.

Officers seized 35 grams of powder and crack cocaine, 11 grams of marijuana and 20 hydro-morphine pills. 

The estimated street value of the narcotics is $3,500. 

Officers also seized a loaded 12 gauge shotgun with no locking mechanism and a stolen Apple Mac Book Pro 13 inch Retina laptop computer.

21-year-old Katrina Riel and 29-year-old David Hache of 40 Rupert Acres Drive, Heyden have been charged with the following offences:

  • One count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Drug or Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Two counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug or Substance contrary to the CDSA
  • One count of Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One Count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One Count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Both accused will appear in bail court this morning.
