Breaking: Pedestrian dead in collision (update, 5 photos)

1:07 p.m. update:

Police have issued the following press release regarding this morning's fatality:

On February 11, 2015 at approximately 11:45 a.m., 911 emergency crews attended in the 700 block of Bay Street for a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

An adult male has succumbed to his injuries. 

Notification of next of kin is still taking place.

Officers from Patrol Services, Traffic Services and Investigation Services are currently on scene. 

The investigation is in the preliminary stages and no further details are being released at this time.

Police at the scene confirm that a person has died in an incident involving a front-end loader that was clearing snow at the site.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and treated the man but he succumbed to his injuries, police say.

12:52 p.m. update:

Police have erected a tent over what appears to be a body at the scene.

Officers can be seen examining a front-end loader.

City police have taped off the parking lot at the Sleep Inn on Bay Street.

No information was immediately available from a police spokesperson.

A caller reported seeing what appeared to be a figure on the ground, covered.
