Pink concrete truck wins award

Caswell Concrete gives back to our community in a ‘colourful’ way and has the first truck of its kind in Sault Ste. Marie.

The pink concrete truck with a painted pink ribbon representing cancer awareness doesn’t just remind us of the fight back against breast cancer, it raises money for research too!

In 2014, Caswell Concrete donated $4,485 to breast cancer research by donating a portion of their proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Caswell’s efforts of creating awareness and fundraising inspired the Canadian Cancer Society Algoma Community office to nominate them for an award entitled “Impact in Community Fundraising”.

“The award recognizes Caswell Concrete’s efforts to make a difference in the lives of those living with cancer, and creating an impact in the fight against cancer through fundraising and awareness,” says Lori McDonald Fundraising Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Martin Kabat, our CEO has acknowledged Caswell’s work and extented his gratitude and congratulations to Caswell Concrete for their contributions to the work we do at the Canadian Cancer Society,” said McDonald.

Caswell Concrete has no intention of bringing their pink concrete truck to a halt anytime soon.

When presenting the award to Caswell Concrete, President and Owner of the concrete company, Don Caswell informed the Canadian Cancer Society that their supplier, Holcim (Canada) Inc. will be joining Caswell Concrete’s efforts in 2015.

Holcim (Canada) Inc. will be donating a portion of their proceeds for every cubic meter of materials purchased for the pink concrete truck.

“We are proud to have business owners like this in the Sault. To have a local business create such an amazing awareness piece and fundraise on our behalf is worth more than an award. Nominating them was the least we could do. We are so appreciative of their work they have done, and that they have chosen to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society,” says McDonald.
