Hundreds of volunteers woke up early today to get this year's Christmas Cheer charity rolling.
Diane Marshall, convenor for Christmas Cheer, calls it the magic of Christmas Cheer.
“We have so many people who are dedicated. They give us their day,” she said.
Although their work is done throughout the year, today was the day it all starts to come together.
“We call it turkey day,” she said, laughing.
Hundreds of volunteers packaged items at the main depot at the former Sir James Dunn location, which are then transported to about 50 sub-depots around town.
“When people see it they are quite impressed. We have people from all different sectors of our community who volunteer,” said Marshall.
Although the event is well organized, Marshall is always watching for ways to improve efficiency and the organizers will hold a wrap-up meeting in January.
Even though we have been in this business a long time, we constantly refine the process,” she said.
