MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

****************************
Two Sault Ste. Marie men have been fined a total of $1,000 and had their fishing licences suspended for possessing too many lake trout.

Christopher Wilmott and Wayne Vaughan pleaded guilty and were fined $500 each.

Their fishing licences were suspended for one year.

Court heard that on May 27, 2014, a conservation officer and a park superintendent on a routine patrol met two individuals on the shore of Peshu Lake.

The officer inspected the boat, cooler and vehicle belonging to the individuals and found 16 large lake trout filets.

The legal limit for lake trout in the area for a sport fishing licence is two, with only one over 40 centimetres.

Justice of the Peace Paula Nichols heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sault Ste. Marie, on December 4, 2014.
