SooToday received the following notice from Algoma Power regarding a power outage north of the Sault.

4:15 p.m. update

Algoma Power experienced a substation outage this morning that has affected over 2,900 customers north of Sault Ste. Marie, including Heyden, Island Lake, Searchmont, Wabos, Goulais, Bluewater Bay, Nils Bay, and north to Havilland Shore Drive.  

Algoma Power has completed work to restore the distribution equipment failure and is working with Great Lakes Power Transmission to complete the balance of work on the transmission substation to restore power.

It is expected that the power will be restored this evening.

Crews are on site and have found significant damage.

It is expected to take a number of hours to repair.

Shortly after 6 a.m. this morning, Algoma Power experienced a substation outage that has affected over 2900 customers north of Sault Ste. Marie, including:

Heyden, Island Lake, Searchmont, Wabos,  Bluewater Bay, Nils Bay, and north to Havilland Shore Drive.

Crews are on site and are working on the issue.
