NEWS RELEASE

SAULT COLLEGE

***************************
After the students of Sault College’s Digital Photography class posted a challenge to the Mayoral Candidates last week, we are pleased to announce that all mayoral candidates accepted the challenge and graciously donated their time for the photo shoots.

From studio to skate park, the candidates were extremely accommodating to the students’ ideas and location.

The idea for this project arose during a class discussion about Editorial Portraiture and the upcoming election.

The students were excited about the idea and accepted the project above and beyond the regular assignments for the semester.

Thank you to all candidates for participating, especially on such short notice.

The students wish all candidates the best of luck in today’s election.

The students would also like to remind their community to get out and vote.

Debbie Amaroso with a view of the city of Sault Ste. Marie.

She is at the site of the former collegiate heights V.S, which Debbie attended.

Prior to meeting the day of our shoot, to which she enthusiastically agreed to, I was aware of her accomplishments for the city of Sault Ste. Marie.

She has aided in the growth and prosper of the business sector, as well as securing the future of OLG, a large source of employment to our community.

This is another reason Debbie enjoys this location, with OLG pictured in the distance of the background.

Despite being with an important figure of the community, Debbie made me feel comfortable and actually put me at ease with her relaxed manner and wit during the afternoon of shooting.

I would like to thank Debbie for taking the time out of her day to support the learning of a Sault college student, and to also make the experience a pleasant one.

Best of luck in the elections!

We sat Heather Cook at the Sault Skate Park at Queen Elizabeth Park amongst a variety of other sports equipment.

These support two of Ms Cook's election platform items.

Firstly new physical activities for children to do around the city, and secondly more activities available to tourists.

Ms Cook was the first candidate on board with our class challenge, and was great to work with.

She was exceedingly patient during the photo shoot, and in the time leading up to it.

It was a great experience for us, and we are very grateful that she took the time to support our challenge!

Mayoral Candidate Robin Coull

With this shot we were aiming to show Robin as himself and as someone who would speak for people who couldn’t speak for themselves.

We were looking at him as if he was batman the defender of Sault Ste. Marie.

We had such a great experience and we learned so much about the candidates especially our own.

Learning more about the election and candidates makes you realize how important your vote is.

All the candidates were great thank you for the experience.

When I met with Ted we were in the middle of the windiest day we've had in a long time, standing on the pier in the middle of the river.

He was a great sport letting me photograph him somewhere we could have been blown over.

In the short time we spent shooting I learned that he was someone that would never say no to an adventure, and that he cares about the city that he lives in.

So I decided to show the city behind him, because without the city none of these candidates would have a reason to run.

My class and I are very thankful for the opportunity to photograph him and other candidates.

Mayoral Candidate Christian Provenzano

The idea behind the shot was Downtown Rejuvenation because that is Mr. Provenzano’s main platform for his campaign.

It was a real pleasure to work with him.

When I pitched the idea to Mr. Provenzano he was extremely enthusiastic indicating that the photographs would portray his message that fit the theme of his campaign to a T.

He was such a patient and good sport with having to wait for either all the vehicles to pass or the red light so we could safely go in the middle of the street to get the shot.

I was so thankful that he was willing to give up a considerable amount of his valuable time on such short notice before the election on Monday.

This is his crunch time to really push his campaign to the people so I know that every minute counts.

I was very impressed about how much he cares and is devoted to our community, and yet at the same time, how he is prepared to sacrifice his time to help out a student from Sault College!

He gave me free range, trusted me implicitly and my abilities 100 percent that made this experience such an awesome and fun one.

Mayoral Candidate Austin Williams

When we did our research on Austin, we discovered that he didn't put up any signs around the city and we though that was very unique.

We wanted to capture this by having all of his goals look like they were coming from his mouth as if he were shouting them.

Both of us were very excited when Austin agreed to take on the challenge and couldn't thank him enough for going out of his way to be at the photo shoot.
