NEWS RELEASE

ALGOMA FOSTER FAMILIES ASSOCIATION

**************************
This week, October 19 – 25, marks the annual Canadian Foster Families Week.

This week is typically celebrated by Children’s Aid Society in acknowledgment of the critical role foster families play in helping to raise children who, for a variety of reasons, aren't with their biological families.

The League of Ontario Foster Families (LOFF) is a provincial advocacy group representing thousands of Ontario foster families including those in Sault Ste Marie & Algoma District.

Our local Algoma Foster Family Association (AFFA) and LOFF recognize and applaud the efforts of foster families in providing care, comfort and support to children and their families who just need a little help.

We recognize the lifestyle challenges associated with providing guidance, nurturing, and a family environment to grow and thrive in.

We recognize the commitment that foster parents feel towards the children we raise together.

Foster families even provide Ontario’s largest pool of adoptive homes.

Available foster families in Ontario is declining in some regions so we need your help!

If you’re interested in opening your heart and doors to fostering, please contact your local Children's Aid Society.

They'll be happy to answer any questions you may have and help you understand what is involved.

As with all families, foster families don't all look alike.

Some families who foster have one parent, some two.

Some have grown children, some have young children, while others have no children.

Some work outside of the home, some don't.

Some have retired, while some work full-time but are off for the summers.

We encourage you to call to see how fostering children may work for your family.

The richness you receive as a foster parent cannot be realized in dollars and cents, but rather by the outcomes of the children and families we serve.
