Hey Stephen, what about our water?

Cheryl Suggashie and Juliet Wemigwans are Algoma University students who took time from their studies to send a message to Stephen Harper.

Wemigwans said she is concerned with the quality of water across Canada.

“They are going to put pipelines through our Canada? If one of those pipelines break and a whole province is unfit to drink water a lot of people are going to suffer,” she said.

She also points to brown water issues closer to home.

“Even my children who go to Eastview (Public School), I had to send them with bottled water because the water wasn’t safe to drink.”

They caught a glimpse of their intended audience as he was spirited away by his security detail.

When asked what she would say to Harper if she met him face-to-face, Wemigwans replied, “I think it’s important as prime minister for you to think of seven generations that will be coming after you.”

The pair found out about the PM's event last minute and were not able to organize more people, but are hoping more will show up to protest outside the 5:30 p.m. scheduled event at the Delta Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront Hotel.

“No one is standing up for the water,” Wemigwans said.
