ALGOMA UNIVERSITY

*************************
The Modern Languages Department at Algoma University is pleased to offer the 2014 Fall Language Program, a series of conversational classes, which provide students and community members with the opportunity to learn how to converse in Mandarin Chinese (traditional Taiwan).

Workshops begin on October 22 and run every Wednesday until December 3.

These language workshops provide participants with basic fundamental language skills for communicating in other countries or provinces.

The workshops are ideal for those planning a trip or venturing abroad, since participants will cover topics of conversation that include travel, cooking, favourite pastimes, and hobbies.

Such sessions will give participants confidence in asking for directions, ordering food, reserving rooms, and having light conversations with locals.

Participants will also be given the opportunity to learn about cultural experiences of the language of interest, and about living in an ever-increasing multicultural community. Some grammar will also be reviewed.

The language workshops will be taught by the University's newest Student-Teacher, Chien Ying Chang.

Each session is an hour and 10 minutes long.

Those who complete the workshop will receive an honorary certificate of completion from the Modern Languages Department. This certificate can enhance your resume with proof of global learning, essential in today's multicultural society.

This workshop is not for University credit.

"I am thrilled Algoma University is once again offering this Fall Language Program," begins Michaud.

"Sault Ste. Marie is becoming more diverse, and more people are showing greater interest in becoming versed in basic communication skills in other languages. The program allows participants to become better integrated into our diverse community and welcome people of different ethnic backgrounds. Plus, the program is a lot of fun!"

A registration fee of $10.00 is required and must be paid on the first day of classes.

Classes will be held in BT400 in the Essar Convergence Centre on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm - 7:40pm.

True beginners of any language are welcome to attend.

The program is open to participants 16 years of age or older.

Special consideration may be given to those who are younger.
