ETSY MADE IN CANADA

Sault Ste. Marie one of 23 locations across the country to participate in first-ever Etsy Made in Canada

On Saturday, September 27, 23 locations across Canada will host a one-day marketplace, bringing together local Etsy sellers and communities in celebration of the country’s maker movement.

As a part of the first-ever Made in Canada event, Team Northern Ontario will feature Etsy sellers from Sault Ste. Marie and area, showcasing their handmade and vintage goods.

Shop local favourites like woodturning from Errol Caldwell of Caldwell Turnings, whimsical art pieces and jewellery from Kerry Grbich of Hartstringz, or watercolour art from Renée Anne Bouffard-McManus of Renée Anne, and more at The Mill Market, 35 Canal Drive, Sault Ste. Marie from 4 to 9 p.m.

Each of these markets from Charlottetown to Nanaimo to Gatineau, has been organized by an independent Etsy community leader, and will reflect the individual culture and style of his or her own community.

For those Canadians unable to visit a Made in Canada marketplace close to them, they can shop online as of  September 18, where all Etsy items available in the live marketplaces nationwide can also be found on a dedicated landing page seen here: Etsy.com/madeincanada

“Made in Canada is a part of Etsy’s recent initiative to take the online marketplace offline, creating the opportunity for our local sellers to connect with each other, and with buyers,” said Erin Green, Country Manager, Etsy Canada. “We are really proud to be supporting local Etsy sellers across the country, such as in Sault Ste. Marie, and fostering creative collaborations and  the growth of the maker movement in Canada!”

“We are thrilled to be one of the 23 locations in Canada to be hosting a pop-up marketplace on September 27,” said Renée Bouffard-McManus, host of the Sault Ste. Marie marketplace taking place at The Mill Market. “Sault Ste. Marie, along with all of Northern Ontario has a thriving community of Etsy sellers, so be sure to come say hello and check out all the fantastic product!”

Bouffard-McManus also noted that the first 30 to attend the event will receive a ‘swag bag’ with items from the participating Etsy sellers!

Etsy Made in Canada Sault Ste. Marie is proud to have partnered with Culture Days and are pleased to be one of the many ongoing events and activities promoting artists and makers within the community.

Thinking Rock will be on-site to facilitate an art lab that will allow those attending to contribute to a collaborative art project.

Made in Canada is the newest addition to the company’s ongoing offline initiatives, like the recent Etsy Road Trip, aiming to connect sellers to their community of fellow makers and local shoppers as well as facilitate creative collaborations.

In addition to extensive marketing and public relations support, Etsy provided a two-day “boot camp” training session for all team captains last spring in Toronto; supplied a PR tool kit on how to locally promote the event; and tips on how to secure a venue and attract local sellers to name a few.

The September 27 cross-country marketplace will demonstrate the breadth of maker culture and growing entrepreneurship across Canada.
