Premier Wynne first provincial leader to stop in SaultMonday, May 26, 2014 by: Kenneth Armstrong
Premier Kathleen Wynne became the first provincial party leader to visit the Sault during this spring election when she made a stop Monday night at the Holiday Inn Express.
Wynne was greeted by Liberal supporters and by local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) David Orazietti.
Wynne addressed many investments she believes are important to the north, including grants through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), which she says other party leaders have not committed to maintaining.
"The north has a hugely positive future, and in order for that future to be realized we need partnerships with government. Governments need to be working with communities and making investments, wether it's NOHFC or four-laning highways or making sure the business climate is such that businesses come to the province," said Wynne.
Wynne highlighted Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak's plan to slash public sector jobs in order to balance the province's budget.
"I believe that the people of Ontario believe in our future. They don't believe we should slow down the recovery right now. They believe we should be investing in education and health care and to get to where we need to go cutting 100,000 jobs out of the economy is not the way to start," said Wynne to supporters.
Tim Hudak was unable to attend a Northern Ontario debate earlier on Monday, and has yet to appear in Sault Ste. Marie during the spring election in support of local candidate Rod Fremlin.
Orazietti said Premier Wynne is an incredible supporter of this community and highlights working closely with her when she was Minister of Education on various projects across his riding.
"Some of the school projects that have been built in this community, her and I have worked very closely on to ensure that those resources and that money flowed from the Ministry of Education right here in this community," said Orazietti.
Local NDP candidate Celia Ross was expected to meet with her party leader Andrea Horwath on Monday, but had to travel to Sudbury to do so.
"We have a comprehensive plan to build on a really thorough understanding of what the economy needs, whether we are in the north or south or the east or west of the province. What the NDP is doing is putting together an incoherent grab bag of ideas and that was very clear today at the debate," said Wynne.
Wynne will be in the Sault until Tuesday morning, after which she continues her campaign in Sudbury.

She was smart to visit us. She has a cabinet minister from here and I am sure she feels they can win this riding...again. Hudak will never show as this is not a "winnable" riding for the COnservatives.

How do you NOT vote Liberal?? Scandals aside (every government has scandals) having a member of the leading party has done wonders for our city!! We have received more than we ever dreamed of when we had Tony Martin representing us
Everyone and their Grandma knows that the NDP will not win, therefore a vote for Celia Ross puts us right back to where we were when Tony Martin represented us, so you might as well just throw that vote right in the garbage!!
Now there is a chance, that the PC's may get in, but I'm not to confident with that happening, just one look at Hudak, and the first thing that comes to mind is, rat!!! On top of that, their representative for our city is a rookie when it comes to politics!!
Lastly, Hudak and Horwath can't find the time to stop here, so that leads me to believe they just aren't interested in our votes!! At least Wynne stopped in town, Horwath is a lousy 2.5 hrs away in Sudbury, and still can't make it here!! It's even funnier that Celia Ross actually had to go to Sudbury to introduce herself to her potential boss lol
The Liberals may have had some scandals during their time in office, but the way I see it, there just isn't enough potential upside of voting for either of the other two parties, so Orazietti and the Liberals will be getting my vote!!
Oh and by the way, all you people who are sure that Orazietti is gone, have you looked around town and seen the signs that are on people's lawns?? Every where I go, I see red and white on people's front yards, and hardly any NDP, and almost no PC's
Mr. Poster 5/26/2014 9:57:45 PM Report
More and more voters are seeing this election as a Liberal minority with the snake oik salesman Hudak as the official opposition. There is nothing in the cards for the NDP and Horwath could very well lose her job after the election.

That's ok ALL is well. You must be a die hard LIBERAL Water off a ducks back
But folks I do not know about you, but I am tired of the HIGH price of electricity. I am tired of all the LIBERAL scandals. I am tired of some many big employers leaving Ontario because of high cost of Hydro. Were was David O when St Marys shut down. Were was the Liberal Party when Kelloggs shut down there plant in London Ontario. In the ring of Fire the biggest barrier is the cost of Hydro in this province. ALL IS WELL does it not bother you the fact that the LIBERAL Government wasted 1 BILLION dollars of my tax dollars to a cancelled gas plant and then had the hard drive wiped out to cover it up. ALL IS WELL does it not bother you the practice of paying the UNITED STATES of AMERICA and QUEBEC over 1 billion dollars to take our excess power then charge you and I top dollar for electricity. All is well , does it not bother you that the LIBERAL GOVERNMENT gave Samsung huge gobs of cash so that they can pay workers in Korea.
This is only naming a few beefs I have with the LIBERAL government. so ALL IS WELL excuse me for saying FEEL FREE TO GO BACK FROM WHENCE SHE CAME

Lets not forget ehealth scandal, ORNGE scandal. I think its time a clear message should be sent to Toronto These scandals are enough.
I wish David O would face us and really address all these scandals. Face us and really explain why we should vote LIBERAL . You know I wish a separate vote could be made for the MP and the premier. All I know is 10 years is enough of these clowns.
sportsfan17 5/26/2014 10:40:06 PM Report
Sorry to bust your balls Scottstewy but the $1 billion dollars is not YOUR tax money. Stopping owning it like it is. It's everybody's money. Technically, based on the population of Ontario, that's $74 of your tax money.
But of course, that includes the non-tax paying children. According to demographics data found here (http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/economy/demographics/projections/#s3c), that youth base is hovering around less than 20%. I'll even give you a bonus and we'll just say 20%.
So 20% of 13.5 million is 2.7 million youth. Which leaves us with a tax-paying population of 10.8 million. If you divide 1 billion by 10.8 million people, we get a whopping $92 of your tax money. Should I write you a cheque?
You seem to be about as bad with numbers as those Conservatives you want to vote in. Tell me, what you rather people lose $92 in tax money or their full pay cheques when Hudak cuts those 100,000 public sector jobs?
Twistinwrenches 5/26/2014 10:42:06 PM Report
If Ontario votes the Liberals in again they are going to deserve what they will get. This means increases in all of these, unemployment, taxes , energy prices , public sector workers , young people leaving to find work . regulations restricting your freedom among other things.
Justin Tetreault 5/26/2014 11:26:00 PM Report
I realize scottstewy is a troll but is he really asking where David Orazietti was for St. Mary's Paper? The Liberal government propped up St. Mary's trying to save it to the point that even St. Mary's employees were saying enough was enough. When Tony Martin was MP, all he did was organize Employment Insurance information sessions. The Liberal government kept St. Mary's alive for years longer than it would have been.
Justin Tetreault 5/26/2014 11:36:04 PM Report
Also, it's not that Tim Hudak was "unable" to attend the Northern Ontario debate, he declined.

When you write out my cheque make sure to multiply by 4 as there are 4 in my house, and since you are so good at your math be sure to add in all the rest of the screw ups with OUR tax money caused by the Libs including this election because if they had lived up to the last budget this most recent one would have passed and we would not be here.
On another note sure was nice to have the Lib leader stop in town would even have been nice to know she was coming, so us little people could have gone to see her.

Not sure how anyone can vote liberal after all the money wasted and scandals. The liberal supporters are like Toronto Maple leaf fans. They suck but people keep cheering for them year after year. The difference is if you support the Maple leafs no big deal to our daily lives. When you support the liberals it affects all of us. Stop thinking of political partys as a hockey team and stick with it no matter what. The liberals could kill your first born and people would still be like "oh better vote liberal its our only choice". Please wake up!!! Don't vote CONservative as they will con you, they are white supremacist that will become a police state and kill innocent people (Dudley George). Give NDP a chance to screw up like the rest. Rae days weren't so bad, who doesn't need an extra day off once in a while.

I have never voted NDP but I can tell from first hand experience that Bob Rae and the NDP gov't of 1990-1995 was superior by every measure to the Wynne/McGuinty disaster Ontario has endured this last ten years. It was an honest gov't that tried its best to fix the mess the Peterson Liberals created in six short years following 40 years of sound Tory regimes.
Those who fail to learn from history do so at their own peril. Those who are showering praises on the most corrupt and incompetent gov't in Canadian history are either blind Liberal loyalists or parties who have profited from Liberal misdeeds or both.
In the U.S. the leaders and lieutenants of gov'ts that behave as the Wynne/McGuinty crowd have end up in jail.
MYPOINT 5/27/2014 9:05:36 AM Report
HUDAK is a little toad who would not even take the time to debate with the others. That tells me that he is also too chicken to come face his competitors or the folks up north. He probably thinks that the Ontario border is just a couple of miles outside of Toronto!
HUDAK is Mike Harris in disguise and we should all remember the chaos when that man was our Premier. I seem to recall that he caused a few scandals when he was our fearless leader also but nobody seems to want to remember that!
HUDAK is trying to become the new Hitler and if he gets in, you can bet the farm that he will cause much more long term harm to this Province than any other party leader!
I have decided to vote LIBERAL because it is the best of the three ( I know, I know, there have been scandals ). But regardless of which party gets voted in, there WILL be scandals also!!
As always, other views are welcomed :)

I vote for a ten yr old operating a lemonade stand over Orazietti's liberals. At least your getting someone who is honest, genuine and making a positive contribution to the economy.
So you describe Hudak as a toad. A toad is also a better alternative. It has energy and purpose and it will consume all the dirt and infestation your liberal buddies have covered our once great province in.

Wow I speak on the issues ,ask questions and get called names. This is the example of those on the extreme left. Its ok Justin water off a ducks back. Whether you agree with me or not the people know there is something terrible wrong with this province. We need a huge change in Government. We need to have fresh faces in power. We need them to investigate the 10 years of Liberal power. Whether it be PC or NDP, we need huge change. In this race all them stink. But saying that Ontario needs change. As Robin Williams once said Politicians are like diapers. They both need frequent changing and usually full of crap.
The issues I bring up are hurting Ontario and our city. The biggest issue I believe that needs to be addressed is the extreme high rate of electricity. Can not blame it no more on Harris. 10 years since Harris days. The LIBERALS own this issue.
