CAMO1 4/3/2014 8:33:49 AM Report

I vote for CCW permits for Canadians.
brittz 4/3/2014 8:53:15 AM Report

muggings in broad daylight now? That's pretty bold considering that's a higher traffic area with the industrial park not far
B Boy 4/3/2014 9:05:47 AM Report

I truly hope this is a scenario where the victim & accused are known to each other and this was related is a 3-way shady deal.

Otherwise, a 2pm broad daylight mugging in a well travelled area is a pretty scary thing.
Boomer4771 4/3/2014 9:18:28 AM Report

I agree with CAM01. This city is getting worse by the day. Think of how many murders, attempted murders or aggravated assaults have occured here in the Soo the past five years.
Kevin5069 4/3/2014 9:30:27 AM Report

CCW permits would be a good idea for law abiding citizens. Would put us on the level with the criminals.

Unfortunatly, our 'justice' system is more interested in making more victims and keeping their lawyers paid and courtrooms filled.
iamtc 4/3/2014 9:37:21 AM Report

Everything is gone to the shits it must be the brown water we drink.
right wing 4/3/2014 9:51:53 AM Report

The majority of these assaults, "home invasions" and "muggings" are carried out by criminals/drug addicts that are known to each other.
I would suggest drugs is the common denominator.
Same goes for some of the murders that have taken place.
I do not know if this one is the result of a drug connection or not.
I do wish that the police would make it known to the public when they are drug related.
Tag33&1/3rd 4/3/2014 10:14:15 AM Report

Probably someone who was released on bail lately being told to keep the peace and be of good behavior!
Tag33&1/3rd 4/3/2014 10:15:48 AM Report

Its always drug related. The police should tell us when it's not.
Sam C 4/3/2014 10:31:32 AM Report

Daylight muggings may be rare, but they are nothing new. My great-aunt was mugged downtown 20 years ago.

I suspect that this is likely a known-to-each-other incident, though.

@CAMO1... really? Would a gun have prevented the mugging, or just result in a shooting after the fact?

And, if everyone starts carrying guns, don't you think the bad guys will, too?
jayne14 4/3/2014 10:51:12 AM Report

I agree with SamC. Guns wouldn't do anything except give the bad guys an upper hand. Children aren't going to be able to protect themselves with guns and I know for a fact that I wouldn't have a gull to whip out a gun to defend myself. Our justice system just needs to stop giving probation and start giving the proper punishments.
bounder 4/3/2014 11:03:24 AM Report

Don't bother picking them up just send the usual warnings and then set the date for the court appearance.
fcubed 4/3/2014 11:04:46 AM Report

Why they don't send more to prison consider this from an other Sootoday thread: "[ineman 4/2/2014 10:37:33 PM Report

An article published in the Toronto sun in 2012.

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/02/28/it-costs-113000-a-year-to-lodge-a-federal-prisoner-report

The annual $2.3-billion bill for the country's 53 penitentiaries works out to $312 per prisoner, per day, according to the latest annual report from Corrections Canada

No doubt it has gone up. And we are settling for $155! (elder care such as Davey home)? something not right here!]"
Bad Dawg 4/3/2014 11:10:03 AM Report

These lil punks are gonna jump the wrong person and end up getting put in the hospital. Now I am not saying anything about going out and being vigilantes but sounds like it is what this city needs.
superior87 4/3/2014 11:17:17 AM Report

Boomer - three roads and an airport out of town if it's getting worse by the day. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Or if you choose to stay, maybe you can volunteer or assist with some of the efforts by social organizations that are trying to implement initiatives to deal with troubled areas of the city.

Or just complain on Sootoday without doing anything about it.
B Boy 4/3/2014 12:18:20 PM Report

Superior - honest question out of curiosity - which organizations do you currently actively participate in?

I can tell you that I've tried to get involved a few years ago and faced roadblocks. Hopefully things are a little more friendly to newcomers now.
Mr E 4/3/2014 1:23:33 PM Report

Prisons need to trim the fat. Meals should be nutritious slop at most. No TV, no exercise equipment, yard work and gardens. Better yet, let them plant and grow their own food.
just the two of us 4/3/2014 2:41:08 PM Report

maybe if we got rid of the C.A.S. kids would not grow up thinking they can get away with whatever they feel like. maybe they might have some respect for themselves, as well as for others.
ranny 4/3/2014 2:59:24 PM Report

This is why I've stopped jogging outside and using an exercise machine. Getting mugged and robbed in broad daylight. The Sault is sinking low with revolving door criminal.
SmAsHed 4/3/2014 7:46:06 PM Report

Just the two of us: I would be more apt to blame bad parenting for kids thinking they can get away with anything rather than the mere presence of the CAS...

The CAS is still unfortunately a necessity for the protection of many children. We can hardly afford to do away with them.
Daddy-O 4/4/2014 8:29:37 AM Report

Really people .... Must be druggies and we should have guns to shoot them. Wake the hell up people. Every one of your negative, ignorant and obviously uneducated answers is to blame - addicts, welfare clients and anyone else you can blame that's not you. If this community came together to understand how to help our fellow citizens who have addictions or our low income family's we would be a much better community. Why not try and look at the underlying reasons here. Maybe if we banned together to help our less fortunate they would have less of a reason to commit crime. Belittling this part of our community just makes it worst as they now fell like they have NO support from their community. If you would print your real name behind your idiotic negative comments, we could call you a loser publicly until you start educating yourself. We should all band together to help these members of our community to help them recover from whatever causes them to commit crime.
