Several area roads closed

Flooding and washouts reported

SAULT STE. MARIE - Due to the severe thunderstorms earlier this morning, the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police reported several road closures due to flooding and washouts.

Below is a list of updated road closures.

Road closures North of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:

• Highway 552 east is closed between the intersection of Highway 556 and Kirby’s Corners.

 • Highway 556 is closed between Highway 17 and Bellevue Valley Road.

• Searchmont residents are being diverted down Bellevue Valley Road onto Highway 552 to Highway 17.

• Kelly Creek Road in Goulais River is closed.

• Thielman Road in Goulais River is closed.

• Mission Road is closed west of the 2400 block.

Road closures East of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:

• Highway 638 is closed at the junction of Highway 17.

• Bar River Road in Bar River is closed.

• Cemetery Road is closed.

• Pioneer Road (between Watson’s Road and Highway 638) is closed.

OPP remind motorists to use caution when driving on area roadways as a number of roadways remain underwater and some bridges impassable.

Keep children away flooded areas as conditions can change very quickly.
