The never-ending winter of 2013 hasn’t stopped local angler Shane

Turcotte from getting an early start to the walleye tournament season.

He has already put in two long weeks of fishing for the famous Erie
Walleye on the Detroit River [photo] and has hit the ground running, with an
11th place finish in the Michigan Walleye Tour, April 6 and 7 and
then walking away from the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit Tournament
Detroit River this weekend with a second place finish and an
impressive two-day total weight of 84.09 lbs.

“It was a cold and windy couple of weeks, but it was great to finally
be on the water! Waiting to weigh in on Sunday was pretty tense, we
knew we had out-fished most of our competitors, but we were coming
from behind after weighing in at sixth place on Day One. We ended up
about a pound and a half off first place, so it was close – too close
to call until the fish hit the scales.”

Cabela’s MWC awarded the second place finishers, Turcotte and his partner Ivan Misevic [photo], with beautiful commemorative plaques and a $6,700 US cheque.

The Crestliner National Pro-Staffer has put in five years honing his tournament skills and with the help of sponsors like Streamside, Northland Tackle, Navionics, Offshore Tackle and NationalProstaff.com he continues his commitment to promote and grow Sport Fishing with his local business Hooked Guide Services and as the Tournament Director of the Kiwanis International Walleye Tournament hosted in the St. Marys River July 12-14, 2013.

This is the earliest start yet for Turcotte, who will participate in both the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit and the Northern Ontario Walleye Trail this summer and he has set the bar high for the rest of the season!

It will take a lot of skill, a little luck and continued hard work for Turcotte to qualify for the Cabela's World Walleye Championship in 2014.
