Team Jacobs wins the Tim Horton's Brier

Monday, March 11, 2013   by: Staff

Team Jacobs is bringing home the Canadian title of curling, the 2013 Tim Horton's Brier.

It's the first time since 1985 a Northern Ontario team has taken the Brier and the Brad Jacobs rink, consisting of Jacobs, lead Ryan Harnden, second E.J. Harnden and third Ryan Fry are bringing that honour back to their home town of Sault Ste. Marie.

“It’s been too long since Northern Ontario’s held that Tankard,” Jacobs told media after the last match in Edmonton on Sunday, his voice shaking. “To bring this back to Northern Ontario, to Sault Ste. Marie, it means the world to us.”

Team Brad Jacobs will next represent Canada at the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship from March 30 to April 7.

Sam C 3/11/2013 9:22:17 AM Report

Watching their last two games, where both Howard and Stoughton were left scratching their heads trying to figure out how to place rocks that Jacobs wouldn't be able to remove, it was obvious that the boys from the Soo had finally come into their own.

First - congratulations to a victory well won.

Second - Darts to SooToday - this headline should have been in capital letters and bold! If it had been hockey, it would have been. There are many teams of different venues who constantly make achievements and are mostly overlooked in favour hockey. This was a national win that puts SSM in the limelight for a positive reason, be proud - show off - be BOLD.
TotallyConfused 3/11/2013 10:06:29 AM Report

CONGRATS to Brad, Ryan EJ and Ryan!!! Amazing performance all week, and an unreal performance during the playoffs!!!

@ Wicket - I totally agree with you!!!
Team Jacobs wins a NATIONAL championship and they get a boring regular font headline. The hounds score a goal and they get a huge bolded CAPITAL headline.
Good job sootoday

Congratulations Team Jacobs!

CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!! What a great and absolutely exciting victory for The Jacobs Team and what a fantastic honour to be able to say our Team from Sault Ste. Marie won the 2013 Brier. Thanks to you, Brad, Ryan,E.J. and Ryan for a super showing at this years's event and thanks for making your City proud.
You guys have worked so hard to get to the top of the podium and you absolutely deserve it.
Thanks again and the best of luck and good fortune at the World's where you will represent Canada, but just as important, you will represent your home town, the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

Just give them the Sportsman of the Year award now, ..... nobody else will even come close to winning it this year, .... even if the Hounds should do something big.

Yeah, SooToday dropped the ball on the headline, that's for sure.

The team dominated team Ontario and Manitoba the last two games, .... it is a changing of the guard in the curling world.
plachowsky 3/11/2013 10:38:24 AM Report

Great news story for SSM and Northern Ontario. Would been nice if SooToday had posted a picture of Brad and/or his team in their Northern Ontario jersey's!
Ru55 3/11/2013 10:41:22 AM Report

Congratulations to Team Jacobs!!! Now lets see, if at the next council meeting, it is brought up to add their accomplishment to the signs entering the city at both ends!!

I followed the Brier closely, to beat Gushu, Howard in the Semi's and than Stoughton in the Championship you guys were awesome, way to go you made SSM/Northern Ontario proud of you, and yes they should be named SPORTS PERSONS of the year. Good luck at the Worlds
