Sault Ste. Marie’s Mac Marcoux won a silver medal today in the competitive men’s visually impaired giant slalom category at the International Paralympic Committee Alpine World Skiing Championships in La Molina, Spain.

The 15-year-old races with the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team.

His guide is his brother BJ (Billy Joe) Marcoux, who is 18.

The duo are shown in a file photo.

Searchmont is their home hill.

It’s believed Mac, who lost his vision in 2007 and started competing in para-alpine events two years ago, is the youngest Canadian to medal at this level of event.

The brothers recorded a two-run combined time of 2 minutes 13.59 seconds.

During his first year on the international circuit, Mac has already earned three IPC World Cup podiums.
