Well done recognizing a suspicious situation and ensuring that follow up occurred, thus foiling this man's plans to further abuse this child. I for one am appreciative of the vigilant work our Customs Officers do every day. These officers are able to strike a nice balance between being welcoming and non-intimidating with most people crossing into our friendly country, yet they prove time and time again their ability to 'spot trouble'.

Spill out the names of the impaired drivers but god for bid we embarrass the local pedophiles.
Ynattirb 1/24/2013 11:03:57 AM Report

Who's to say this girl is a "victim"? I am in no way condoning the relationship between these two individuals but this male will now be looked at as a "pedophile". Clearly the relationship between these two was consentual, and yes, she is very young so it shouldn't have happened in the first place but this man has now probably lost everything due to these charges. Why should he be the bad guy when she was just as involved in the relationship?
KMF61MCF 1/24/2013 11:13:10 AM Report

"Pedophiles" Names and Pictures should be made public! I agree SOME TEENS will do as they please, they will listen to NO ONE, but what they want to do. But for every action there is a reaction and a person has to accept the consequences for there action the 35 year old man knew very well this was WRONG thing to do and should have never involved or got involved in this situation.

Consensual or not, these laws are in place for a protect those who are vulnerable to being taken advantage of by people like this man. Young boys and girls can easily be manipulated by older people, especially those in positions of authority, which may or may not have been the case in this instance. They can even be manipulated into making 'consensual' choices.

As you said yourself, "yes, she is very young so it shouldn't have happened in the first place". You are bang on with that assessment.

Wonder how much a taxi from Traverse City to SSM costs...

I would give him 10 years minimum.

Names are often withheld to avoid identifying the victim - someone who knows the victim may recognize the accused's name and make the connection and it could be further trauma/stigma for the victim to deal with.

Names in child pornography charges ARE often published.

Sad that at 15 she was in this situation.

Her parents must be upset especially if they had no clue.
We should have a right to know who these monsters are.
Why do they deserve protection?
They didn't care about the kids they hurt and their protection.
I don't think it should be announced until they are found guilty but after that we should know.
Boomer4771 1/24/2013 3:30:29 PM Report

Sad part of it is that this piece of garbage who has taken advantage of an innocent child will in deed probably only receive 6 to 9 months in jail ( only having to do 2/3 time ) and a little probation. Welcome to our ridiculous justice system...While this child has to carry trama for the rest of her life.
Christina216 1/24/2013 3:51:44 PM Report

well if he goes to a real prison and the guys in there find out what he did he will surely become someones "little girl".
Pete B 1/24/2013 4:21:48 PM Report

am going to assume this young girl was not dumb and nieve enough to take a taxi to the sault without knowing what she was doing, so calling her a poor young victim I think is wrong, the adult is wrong for doing what he did but I am sure the young girl knew what was happening, anyone thinking she is the poor victim I am guessing does not know any 14 -18 yr old teenage girls, they are not the sweet innosense they once were in the old days
mn98 1/24/2013 6:33:10 PM Report

k, NOT condoning pedophiles!!!

However, just saying, 16 isnt "sweet 16" anymore.

"Oh, your 16? Here's a license. Go get a job. Plan your future now....", etc., yet "no sex til marriage!"?? lol

Its sad to say, but times have changed and the "good ol'days" are long gone. These "kids" are designed in our culture to pretty much ignore the postive/"boring" influences around them, while they are trained from such a young age by our media to "worship" the materialistic, the get rich quick, "Jersey Shore" BS. Money for nothing and 15 minutes of fame is more important then the pride of honest work.

I guess the taxi driver never thought she was too young and excepted her cash or maybe a credit card for the fare. As for the cost of the taxi i wonder who footed the bill. $2.95 for the first 1/4 mile and then about $2.60 per mile the trip should be about $350.00 depending on where she started out from. l really don't think she was too naive to jump into a taxi for 3 hours or so. She knew what she was doing. 16 is "all grown up" nowadays.
We are not in the 80's anymore
SM-G 1/25/2013 12:27:47 AM Report

16 years old is NOT “all grown up”, today or in the 80’s (??)!! And the relationship started when she was 15, which is even worse. Obviously this girl was a victim to a MUCH older man who inherently had far more power and control in the relationship. Yes, she may have willingly got into a cab knowing where she was going, but she was influenced by someone far older and more worldly then her. This is sexual abuse of a minor, and as such should be taken far more seriously by the law and society in general.
