Opposition votes against the faster removal of foreign criminals

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Conservative Government is committed to keeping Canada’s streets and communities safe.

The Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act will put a stop to foreign criminals relying on endless appeals in order to delay their removal from Canada, during which time they can commit more crimes.

“Canadians are generous and welcoming people, but we have no tolerance for criminals and fraudsters abusing our generosity. The Conservative Party of Canada’s election platform promised to expedite the deportation of foreign criminals and this act is delivering on that promise,” said Sault Ste. Marie MP Bryan Hayes.

The Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act will expedite removal of foreign criminals from Canada and enhance the safety and security of Canadians.

This act focuses on three areas which will:

• Make it easier for the government to remove dangerous foreign criminals from our country

• Make it harder for those who may pose a risk to Canada to enter the country in the first place, and

• Remove barriers for genuine visitors who want to come to Canada.

Unfortunately, this week at the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, the NDP and Liberals voted against this legislation once again putting the rights of criminals ahead of victims and law-abiding Canadians.

According to MP Hayes, by voting against this legislation, the NDP and Liberals chose to ignore the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the Canadian Police Association, and Victims of Violence who, among others, strongly support this bill.

“Our government will continue to move this important piece of legislation forward to ensure that foreign criminals are off of our streets and out of our communities,” concluded MP Hayes.
