Power Workers’ Union to host public meeting on carbon-neutral biomass
Residents of Sault Ste. Marie are invited to participate in a town hall meeting regarding Ontario’s energy future.
The Power Workers’ Union is hosting a public meeting to share and discuss Ontario’s biomass opportunity.
The PWU wants to ensure that Ontario has a robust and sustainable electricity system that provides reliable, affordable and environmentally-responsible electricity for Ontario consumers.
Converting existing coal generating stations to be fuelled by biomass and natural gas is a good way to help achieve this goal.
WHO: Electricity consumers, farmers, academia, students, etc.
WHAT: Biomass town hall hosted by Power Workers’ Union
WHERE: Royal Canadian Legion - Branch #25, 96 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste. Marie
WHEN: Tuesday, June 12 at 7 p.m.
WHY: Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area stand to benefit from home grown power and the harvesting of biomass for electricity production.
HOW: Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area is blessed with vast forest land, a great source of logging residues.
This would supply the pellets needed to produce home grown power, and create thousands of jobs in forest-dependent regions.
Ontario will lose the environmental and economic benefits of this sustainable energy resource without a comprehensive biomass strategy.
