The latest on Sault and area fire bans

As reported earlier by SooToday.com, the Ministry of Natural Resources yesterday lifted the restricted fire zone order originally declared for Northeastern Ontario on May 16. However, some area burning restrictions are still in effect.

However, some area burning restrictions are still in effect.

Open air burning bans remain in effect for the Municipality of Huron Shores as well as the Municipality of Laird.

Fire Services issued the following news release today, lifting the fire ban order for Sault Ste. Marie.

Open air burning ban lifted

Effective Friday, June 1, 2012 the ban on open air burning within the municipality of Sault Ste. Marie has been lifted.

All open air burning requires prior approval from Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.

Any contravention of the approval will result in an immediate 90 day suspension and/or charges under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act. 

Fire Services will continue to monitor conditions and notify the public accordingly.

To obtain or renew a burn permit call Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services at 705-949-9898.

Fire Chief Marcel Provenzano is asking the public to strictly follow the open air burning guidelines, and be mindful of changing weather conditions as a means of preventing nearby exposure fires which could threaten life, property, and the environment.
