ST. BALDRICK'S

Local Saultites shave their heads for children affected by cancer

After being personally affected by acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at the age of 11, Will Stephenson has decided to dedicate his life to making a difference.

Organizing Sault Ste. Marie's first ever, St. Baldrick's event, is one way Stephenson is giving back to the organization that gave him so much.

Last year, Stephenson received the scholarship with Childhood Cancer Canada.

After being awarded the scholarship, Childhood Cancer Canada approached him and asked if he would volunteer for them by running a St. Baldrick's event.

Who

St. Baldrick's is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

St. Baldrick's is a partner with Childhood Cancer Canada and all proceeds of any Canadian event go to Childhood Cancer Canada and directly to funding Canadian researchers.

At St. Baldrick's events, people collect money with the promise of shaving their heads.

St. Baldrick's funds more childhood cancer research than any other organization in the world other than the U.S. government.

The money is divided up by an expert panel of researchers who determine what research is most important and will have the greatest benefits.
