An internationally respected physician and author known as the “The Gaza Doctor" will speak in Sault Ste. Marie on June 5.

Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish will discuss war and life in his homeland during a 10 a.m. presentation in Sault College's multimedia centre.

In his book  “I Shall Not Hate,” Abuelaish describes growing up in Gaza's Jabalia refugee camp and the development of his views on peace in Israel and Palestine.

During his address, he will discuss how he overcame personal hardships, including poverty and violence.

Abuelaish went on to become one of the most outspoken, prominent and beloved researchers, educators and public speakers on peace and development in the Middle East.

His compelling response to the loss of three children and a niece in an Israeli attack won him humanitarian awards around the world.

Instead of seeking revenge or sinking into hatred, Abuelaish has called for the people of the Middle East to start talking to each other.

Abuelaish is an associate professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.

His session, which is part of the college's spring-summer professional development series, is open to the public.

There is no admission charge.

Those planning to attend are asked to so indicate seat by e-mail or by phoning Patty at 705-759-2554, ext. 2699.
