The final decision is yet to be made but the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board has tabled a resolution.

The proposed resolution?

That the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board approves in principle the recommendations of the St. Theresa/St. John ARC as follows:

  • St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School be consolidated at the St. Basil site, conditional upon enrollment and adequate capacity, in conjunction with the City Central ARC recommendations
  • St. John Catholic Elementary School be consolidated with Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Elementary School effective for the 2014/15 school year conditional upon enrollment and adequate capacity.

“The reports that were in the agenda were to consider the recommendations that came from the accommodation review committees, (which were) the consolidation of St. Theresa to the St. Basil site, which would probably occur around 2016 but the other interesting development in our consultation was consolidating St. John’s with Our Lady of Lourdes," said Director of Education John Stadnyk. "That could happen as early as 2014."

Stadnyk noted that the resolution was not approved during Wednesday night’s board of trustees meeting.

“Our guideline is that we present it to the board the meeting previous to the meeting where it will be decided,” Stadnyk said. “We had laid out a timeline of June 13 where a decision would be made.

We just brought the report to the trustees to look over and if they have any questions they can submit those and we would be prepared to answer those o the night that we deliberate and make the decision.”

The initial report was brought forward at the Apr. 25 meeting while Wednesday night saw the director’s recommendation brought to the trustees.

“(Wednesday) was the director’s recommendation based on staff analysis of the ARC recommendation,” Stadnyk said. “This was our response to those recommendations.”

Those who have questions or concerns regarding the recommendation can view the report on the H-SCDSB website.

The recommendation will be brought forth on June 13 where a final decision will be made.
