West End Community Centre funding wiggles a bit

City staff announced changes to funding for the West End Community Centre project at Monday’s city council meeting, but assured the funding adjustment will not affect the project.

City staff announced changes to funding for the West End Community Centre project at Monday’s city council meeting, but assured the funding adjustment will not affect the project.

Originally the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) agreed to a $750,000 grant along with a $750,000 loan for the West End Community Centre project.

However, an appeal was submitted to the NOHFC as city staff said those amounts were lower than expected.

In response to the appeal, NOHFC has increased the grant to $1 million and reduced the load to $500,000.

An amendment has been made to the Loan and Conditional Contribution Agreement with NOHFC and has been reviewed by the Legal and Finance department at city hall.

On Monday, city council passed a by-law to authorize the amended agreement between the city of Sault Ste. Marie and the NOHFC.
