Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to 17 reported incidents from May 11 to May 14, 2012.

On May 11, 2012, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a large grass fire in the 1600 Block of Second Line West.  

High winds and current dry conditions contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. 

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services with the help of Prince Township Volunteer Fire Department brought the fire under control after battling the blaze for three hours.

During the early morning of Sunday, May 13, 2012, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to the 100 Block of Victoria Street for a structure fire. 

Firefighters extinguished the fire within 25 minutes of arriving on the scene. 

Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties to report. 

The cause of the fire was determined to be a careless discarded cigarette.

On May 14, 2012, shortly after midnight Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to the Rankin Reserve for a structure fire.

The fire was brought under control by suppression crews in 26 minutes.

No injuries to report. 

The fire is currently under investigation.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services would like to remind everyone that a fire ban is currently in effect within the municipality of Sault Ste. Marie.  

Open air burning is strictly prohibited until further notice.
