Forgetful but thankful

On Saturday afternoon SooToday.com received the following letter from loyal reader Danielle Fleming.

*************************
Dear anyone in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario who has found something that doesn't belong to them and did the right thing,

Thank you.

This comes from someone who in the last two months has left behind not one item of extreme importance, but two.

For some reason I have become extremely forgetful (or careless) with my belongings lately.

Sometime in late March I went to the Subway in the Churchill plaza for lunch.

I left behind my wallet complete with drivers' license, cash, SIN card, Health card, Visa card and Birth certificate.

(And yes, I'm sure most of you are asking why in the world I keep such important pieces of ID in my wallet - trust me, I have gotten the lecture from quite a few people.)

Thankfully, when I called a few days later looking for said wallet, I received a "Yes, your wallet was found by an employee. We have it here for you."

Phew.

That was a close one!

Wallet was returned containing everything I mentioned above.

Thank you very much.

Now, just yesterday afternoon, I was at Beauty Tips in the Cambrian Mall going for a tan.

I removed my ring and placed it on a provided chair.

This ring is extremely important to me.

It belonged to my Aunt who passed away and I was very close to her.

Just about 15 minutes ago, I noticed that the ring was not on my finger.

The only time I have EVER taken it off is when I have gone for a tan.

I called Beauty Tips and before I had gotten the words "Hello I was in for a tan yesterday...." the friendly girl on the other line said "Your ring."

Yes. My ring.

I babbled my thanks and let her know my name and that I would be in to retrieve it.

The whole point of this is how thankful I am to live in a city that seems to be filled with mostly honest people.

It's not to say that I haven't been a victim of theft here as well because I have been stolen from numerous times.

But I believe that is what makes these kinds of actions so important.

It is a comforting feeling to know that there are still good people out there.

Thank you to both of the people who found my belongings and did the right thing.
