Sault Free-Cycle Saturday announces green event

Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources and eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.

What is a Free-Cycle Saturday, you might ask?

Discussions for this event originally started on Facebook and word has spread and continues to build steam.

Growing awareness of Free-Cycle Saturday and bringing information to the community at large will expand our reach from not only our Facebook friends but to the entire City of Sault Ste. Marie residents and make this initiative a larger success.

As spring is upon us, many people are starting their annual purge and spring cleaning.

We tend to think: "I don't want to throw that away - it's perfectly good", so we store it again until next year.

We all have those items that have gone back on the shelf or in the corner of the shed and we have not used it or years.

But wait, what if this year we don't store it and change our thinking and say: "I have not used this item in years, I wonder if someone else can use this?"

Your re-useable unwanted items could be someone else's treasure.

Got clutter? Free-cycle it!

Free-Cycle Saturday - Saturday, May 12, 2012

We encourage each household to do their part for our environment and be as green as possible, rather than bringing your unwanted items to the landfill site participate in Free-Cycle Saturday.

Simply leave your unwanted item on your curb on May 12 with a sign indicating 'Free'.

We trust that everyone will adhere to the conditions, we ask you to keep it free, legal and appropriate for all ages.

This means, for example:

  • No pornography
  • No alcohol
  • No tobacco
  • No firearms or other weapons
  • No drugs (of any kind, including all medicines, vitamins, creams, etc.)

Items which remain are to be removed by 9 p.m. the same day (there will be no special garbage pick-up).

This is a City of Sault Ste. Marie endorsed event.

Additional information can be found here.
