I would like to say that the first dog training seminar organized by Brenda Aelick of Echo Bay was a resounding success!

Brenda was able to recruit a very generous friend Lucie Marie Guilbert from Quebec to give a seminar on shaping (teaching dogs to think) and agility handling.

The seminars took place at the Echo Bay arena on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

It is the first time that dog events have been approved for this venue and we hope that council will see fit to allow us the use of this wonderful facility for future events.

Friday's shaping seminar was fun and informative and the beginner dog/handlers were amazed at how quickly they could achieve a desired behaviour!

It was a fun evening for human and canine - even the spectators left with a smile!

On Saturday afternoon, Lucie Marie brought tips she has learned from training with Canada's world team to participants from Echo Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Goulais.

It was a mentally challenging afternoon for handlers who all left with a new understanding of the handling skills required to improve their results at the next agility competition.

Brenda hopes that this was just the first of many more educational dog training seminars to come to the Algoma area.

Stay tuned for summer and fall plans.
