"This volunteer created group is made up of all equal members," said Julie Hyrniewicz-Hache, a member of the association.

"Our intention is to work with elected officials within the community for the purposes of improving processes within the municipal government as well as the community in general."

At Monday's city council meeting, Hyrniewicz-Hache announced the local ratepayers association will be hosting a regional meeting with the Greater Sudbury and Espanola chapters on April 21 at the Delta Waterfront Hotel and Conference Centre.

From noon to 2 p.m. a conference will be held and the afterwards a dinner/dance will take place; starting at 6 p.m.
Mayor Debbie Amaroso will speak the conference of her "Your City, Your Say" initiative and how she's working on expanding community engagement.

"We are very grateful the mayor has expressed interest in working with citizens in order to become more connected," Hyrniewicz-Hache said.

She also explained the ratepayers association works to help people learn about the process behind municipal government and tries to connect people with issues to others with similar ones.

They meet once a month - usually the third Thursday - at City Hall.

Hyrniewicz-Hache said everyone is invited to attend the afternoon conference and the dinner afterwards.

While admission to the conference is free, tickets to the dinner and dance costs $30.

Those interested in purchasing a ticket can contact the ratepayers association at [email protected].
