*************************

In the early morning hours of February 19, 2012, at approximately 07:00 hours, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a structural fire in the 100 block of Adelaide Street.

Upon arrival, Fire Services personnel encountered heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the structure.

Fire crews executed an interior attack and brought the fire under control at approximately 07:45 hours.

There was extensive fire, smoke and water damage throughout the structure.

A tenant was awakened by the noise of the fire.

Three occupants and two dogs were fortunate to escape the fire unharmed as there were no working smoke alarms.

Further investigation revealed the cause of the fire was faulty wiring.

Remember, it’s the law in Ontario to have working smoke alarms on every storey of your home and outside all sleeping areas.

Test and maintain your smoke alarms on a regular basis.
