Meet Matthew Stefano, three and a half-year-old Cameron Nelson-Kuzma, and Chris Sierzputowski, the three semi-finalists in Wednesday night's BMO Ultimate CHL Fan Contest hosted in conjunction with the Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club.

In order to participate, Soo Greyhounds fans were required to register at the BMO Cambrian Mall branch dressed in their best Hounds attire and tell a panel of judges why they deserved to be crowned "ultimate fan."

Semi-finalists were chosen by judges Jack Campbell, Greyhounds goalie; Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas and BMO Branch Manager Rik Smythe.

Stefano, Nelson-Kuzma (with the help of his father Jordan) and Sierzputowski then had to answer Soo Greyhounds trivia questions in order to determine the winner.

These questions included:

  • What is the current name of the Greyhounds' mascot?
  • What was the original name of the building that the Greyhounds currently play in?
  • There has been one former Greyhound to be drafted first overall into the NHL. Name that one Greyhound alumnus.
  • Who was the Greyhounds' all-time leader in number of games played?
If a contestant answered incorrectly, they were eliminated from the competition.

When all was said and done, Chris Sierzputowski reigned victorious and will be entered into a draw with BMO Ultimate CHL Fan Contest winners from other OHL team communities for a chance to win a trip to the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Shawinigan, Quebec.

In addition to the competition, Soo Greyhounds mascot Dash and players Nick Cousins, Darnell Nurse, Colin Miller and Greg Jambrosich were on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.
