NEWS RELEASE

LORENA TRIDICO

***************************
In 2004, I returned to Sault Ste. Marie, as a young woman wishing to make a difference in this city.

I immediately became involved in municipal issues and quickly became a community activist.

I was always of the opinion that if one wants to see change happen in a neighbourhood or community, one must be part of that change.

In 2006, I made the decision to seek public office representing Ward 4.

In November 2006, I was elected by a clear majority in Ward 4, being the first and youngest woman to represent this area as a City Councillor.

It was an absolute honour and privilege to represent the constituents of Ward 4 and this community from 2006-2010.

Although there were many obstacles put in place throughout my term as a City Councillor, I remained focused and served my constituency with professionalism, dedication and integrity.

I believe that those in which I have had the honour of working with can attest to my character and work ethic.

In 2010, I chose to seek re-election in Ward 4. Unfortunately, I had to contend with vicious and slanderous statements made against me by my opponents during the municipal election.

In addition, significant vandalism occurred to my properties and some of my supporters were harassed.

As this was an ongoing matter before the courts, I was unable to address these misleading allegations and as a direct result, I was unsuccessful in my re-election bid.

During the course of the court proceedings, there was evidence of non-compliance with the Municipal Elections Act including officials not being properly appointed.

In addition, there are approximately 1500 city-wide Change of Address Forms that demonstrated clear violations under this Act.

In my opinion, the investigation failed to address those responsible for these such violations. I am of the opinion that my family and I were selectively prosecuted.

I believe that this was politically motivated and the taxpayers have had to bear the cost.

I am pleased with the fact that this charge has been stayed.

I have always maintained and will continue to do so, that the charges against me are unfounded and I am innocent of all allegations against me.

The past 5 years have been extremely stressful for my family and I.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my constituents within Ward 4 and my supporters throughout this community for their overwhelming support. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my attorney Joseph Bisceglia and his staff for their tireless work.

I remain committed to the constituents of Ward 4 and this community and as such will continue to make a difference in this community, regardless of whether or not I serve in an elected position.
