Orazietti announces $10,000 for Bon Soo Winter Carnival

Provincial support for local festivals boosts tourism, strengthens economy

SAULT STE. MARIE - The province is supporting Sault Ste. Marie’s Bon Soo Winter Carnival with $10,000 for office upgrades that will assist event organizers in planning and marketing the annual carnival, David Orazietti, MPP announced today.

“Festivals and cultural events like the Bon Soo Winter Carnival are enjoyed by Sault Ste. Marie residents and visitors alike and strengthen our local economy by providing a boost to a range of local businesses,” said Orazietti. “By providing support to help improve the organizational capacity of the Bon Soo planning committee, we are also helping to ensure the continued success of this popular annual community carnival.”

The provincial funding, which is being delivered through the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), will be used by the carnival organizing committee to purchase new computer hardware and software that will enhance the organization’s ability to plan the annual carnival and enable the organization to develop and print promotional materials in-house.

“The Ontario Trillium Foundation is providing vital funding to Bon Soo that will allow us to purchase new hardware and software for our office,” said Kerrie De Poli, manager of the Bon Soo Winter Carnival. “Prior to the assistance from OTF, our computer systems were antiquated and failing. Among other things, we now have a shared network, and the ability to work with a wide range of file types. Bon Soo is a 49-year-old event, and now, thanks to OTF, we have all the technology we need to begin our next 50 years - Thank you!”

A leading grant maker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives.

An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities. www.trilliumfoundation.org
