Eardrums were damaged this past weekend as the winners were announced following the fifth annual Algoma Regional FIRST Lego League competition at Sault College.

Twelve teams of Algoma Region students spent eight weeks building and programming Lego Mindstorms® robots to participate in the Food Factor Challenge, which explored the contamination of food and a variety solutions to the problem.

Teams included those from Anna McCrea, Aweres, Central Avenue, Grand View, Greenwood, Kiwedin, Notre-Dame-Du-Sault, Queen Elizabeth, R.M. Moore (2 teams), St. Joseph Island Central School and William Merrifield.

Numerous challenges and presentations took place throughout the day, including a demonstration by the Algoma District School Board's Knights of Alloy team and their robot.

Two teams were selected to go on to take part in the FIRST Lego League Competition in Oshawa on January 14 with a chance to go to the World Festival in St. Louis, Missouri in April - event champions Aweres Robotic Club (pictured) and the runner-up, Notre-Dame-Du-Sault.
