SooToday.com has received the following letter from a loyal reader and local snowmobiling enthusiast:

*************************

(November 28, 2011) - As the snowmobile season is fast approaching, the Sault Trailblazers Snowmobile Club reminds all snowmobilers that trail permits are available through December 1 at a $50 discount.

As of Friday the cost of a seasonal trail permit reverts back to the regular rate of $250.

Permits are available from the Sault Trailblazers Clubhouse, our trailer located in the Canadian Tire parking lot through Thursday night, or from one of our many vendors.

Important notice regarding the “D”-Trail between Searchmont and Wawa:

All snowmobilers are advised that the “D”-Trail between Searchmont and Wawa will be temporarily closed for the 2012 season.

This is due to the closure of Halfway Haven Lodge for this winter.

Without Halfway Haven being open no fuel, food or lodging are available anywhere between Searchmont and Wawa.

After much discussion and weighing many possible options, it has been decided that in the interest of safety, the trail would be temporarily closed for this season.

This decision was made jointly by the Sault Trailblazers and the Wawa SnoRiders Snowmobile Clubs. It does appear likely that the lodge and trail will reopen for the 2013 season.

We wish to thank all snowmobiles for their continued support.

Thank you,

- John Mayne, president
