NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE FIRE SERVICES

**************************

During the early morning hours of November 28, Fire Services responded to the 100 Block of Moluch Street.

The homeowners were alerted to a smoke condition by the basement smoke alarm.

Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a slight haze of smoke throughout the home caused by a melted extension cord plugged into a freezer.

During this overheat condition, had the extension cord been in close proximity to combustibles, a fire potentially could have started.

The home was ventilated and the remaining smoke alarms tested.

Fire Services would like to remind the public that, extension cords are for “temporary use” only.

Extension cords are not designed to be used as permanent wiring and as such may fail over time.
