Lake Superior State University student engineers install one of four new FANUC M10 robots in LSSU's automated systems laboratory on November 24.
From left are Steven Morehouse (a mechanical engineering major from Lewiston, Michigan); LSSU Mechanical Laboratory Engineer Jon Coullard; Nolin Livingston (manufacturing engineering technology; Adrian, Michigan); and Scott Urbanc (mechanical engineering; Vulcan, Michigan).
The new machines incorporate modern automation technologies such as 2D and 3D vision, force/torque sensing, Ethernet communications, dual control safety checks, and Roboguide state-of-the-art robotics simulation software.
Funding for the new line comes in part from a Perkins Occupational Education grant, with support from FANUC Robotics and many other industrial sources.
LSSU is the only university in the United States to offer an industrial robotics specialization in its undergraduate engineering and engineering technology degrees for the past 30 consecutive years.
