NEWS RELEASE

SAULT AREA HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

*************************
Over the next 10 years, the list of essential equipment required to ensure the delivery of quality local care, at the only acute healthcare facility in the Algoma District, is in the $30 million range.

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) requires the support of local businesses, clubs and individuals to ensure patients of our community have access to prompt, quality care, close to home.

McDougall Energy and Imperial Oil have stepped up to do their part with a recent donation of $10,000 to assist in the purchase of Computerized Ambulatory Drug Delivery (CADD) Pumps for typical use in a number of clinical patient care situations.

A common question regarding the equipment needs at our community Hospital relates around the taxes we all pay towards universal healthcare:  Don’t the taxes we pay cover the cost of our healthcare?

Typical funding to Ontario Hospitals from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is designated to operate the facility and cover the costs to deliver care.

The purchase of new and replacement medical equipment, required for quality local care, is considered a capital cost and is funded primarily through support to SAHF.

This is the case for all hospitals across Ontario.

Both McDougall Energy and Imperial Oil have made it their mission to be community minded and support causes that affect the people in the areas they operate.

“Quality healthcare is a necessity in our community.  Through our Community Investment Program, McDougall Energy is pleased to once again do our part to help upgrade our Hospital equipment,“ said Darren McDougall President of McDougall Energy Inc. “On behalf of our Sault team, extended families and our partner, Imperial, we are pleased to support health-care excellence in Northern Ontario through our support of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation,” continued McDougall.

The $10,000 gift has been made to help ensure local patients have access to quality care.

The CADD pumps, utilized throughout Sault Area Hospital (SAH), offer safe, controlled, and self-delivered drug administration, allowing patients to receive chemotherapy or pain management medications in Palliative Care, Oncology, and Acute Care settings throughout SAH.

A total of 18 CADD pumps are needed to continue to deliver care at a cost of $4,853 each.

McDougall Energy supported the campaign for the New Hospital and has continued their support for the fifth year since the doors opened.

It’s support like this that ensures we have the medical equipment needed to provide excellent care locally.

“Imperial and McDougall Energy have a long and proud history, and we are pleased to support for the second year in a row, the Sault Area Hospital Foundation via the Esso Community Program.  The Esso Community Program was created to support initiatives that have a positive impact on the community, as well as reinforce the commitment of Esso branded retailers and associates to the communities where their customers live”, said Martyn Iles, Senior Fuels Account Executive, Fuels Marketing – Wholesale & Specialties, Imperial Oil.

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation, on behalf of the physicians, staff and patients of SAH, both present and future, would like to thank the McDougall Energy, Imperial Oil and their employees for this generous, community-minded gift.

Over the years our community has ensured our Hospital has the equipment required to deliver quality care and as technology advances, equipment costs soar and our standard of care is threatened, we are certain this community will support these needs and ensure we all have access to the care we all deserve.

Thank you for being part of our healthcare.
