Wednesday afternoon at Mill Market, Destination North hosted a preview of the upcoming Cob and Cut Festival featuring the West Coast Lumberjack Show.

Jumberjack Steve Hebert was on hand demonstrating his chainsaw carving skills, just one of the many talents to be showcased the weekend of August 22 and 23 at Mill Square.

The Sudbury native was busy carving an eagle that will be use as an auction or raffle item to raise funds for ARCH.

Stephen Hollingshead, Manager of special events and product development for Destination North, told SooToday Cob and Cut will include a variety of lumberjack stunts and competitions such as log rolling, axe throwing, tree climbing and more.

Live entertainment and fresh St. Joseph Island corn on the cob are also a big part of the two-day festival.

“We wanted to revive the Cornfest idea from days gone by,” said Hollingshead.

Traditional music and dance performances from AlgomaTrad, and feature sets from Swamperella and The Mudmen will round out the festival schedule.

Tickets are available now at the Downtown Association office (496 Queen St. East) and Saturdays at Mill Market.
