Stewart, Shirley (Aunt Shirley)

Posted

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants.” Psalm 116:15

It is with sadness but with peace that we announce the passing of Shirley Stewart into the care of her Saviour at ARCH, Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Shirley was born April 2, 1932 in Leeburn, Ontario to Wray and Nora Stewart. She leaves to mourn her twin sister Helen McLeod (late Ron) Blind River, and sister-in-law, Doris Stewart (late Gerald) Bramalea, nieces and nephews and countless relatives and close friends. During her high school years. Shirley committed her life to serve her God in whatever way she could. After a short teaching career with the Tarentorus School Board she began ministry with Canadian Sunday School Mission to more fully realize her teenage commitment. She had a heart for God and a love for people and this was apparent in her interactions wherever she went. For close to 60 years she served in the Algoma District, lovingly and graciously reaching out to people. Through teaching Bible in elementary schools, leadership at Galilean Bible Camp, conducting Vacation Bible Schools, Youth Rallies, Ladies’ Bible studies, and home visitation, she fulfilled her vision of serving her Lord. She was affectionately known to many as “Miss Stewart” or “Aunt Shirley”. She loved to tell the stories of Jesus. Her family and friends will now gather to seek His comfort and strength. We thank God for the life and ministry of Shirley Stewart. She leaves an admirable legacy of serving others. To all who knew her she was gracious and kind, working tirelessly in what God had called her to do.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Menard Funeral Home. Friends may gather to pay their respects at Immanuel Baptist Church, 5 White Rd., Hwy. 17 E. (beside Eldo Inn), Blind River, Friday, January 30, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm.
