Invites applications for the position of:

PERMANENT FULL-TIME SEXUAL ASSAULT/ABUSE COUNSELLOR
Reporting to the Director of Programs and Staff the counselor will provide individual and group counselling, advocacy and community referrals to women in the community as outlined below, who in the past have experienced or are currently experiencing sexual assault/abuse. The sexual assault/abuse may have occurred to the survivor as a child or adult.


DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Provide crisis support/intervention and individual counselling and ongoing, time-limited group counselling services to adult women (ages 16 years and over) who have experienced sexual assault/abuse.
• To provide intake and assessment services.
• To engage in community requests for public education regarding Women’s Outreach services and sexual assault/abuse.
• To advocate on behalf of clients by intervening on their behalf where appropriate and necessary.
• 37.5 hours per week.
• Accompaniment to resources where necessary; this may include court, police services and hospital etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters in Social Work, Psychology or related field, plus two years of relevant experience
OR
• Bachelors in Social Work, Psychology or related field plus three (3) years of relevant experience
• Clinical training and experience in individual and group counselling and client advocacy
• Working knowledge of treatment approaches for sexual assault/abuse and violence against Women
• Awareness of feminist, cross-cultural and addictions therapy issues
• Must be willing to be available for some evening and weekend work
• Must have own vehicle and insurance and provide a clear criminal records check

Hours of work are Monday-Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, however, evening work may be required to meet the needs of the organization. Travel may be required throughout the Algoma District.
